May 25, 1998... A cancer was born. Not someone born in the summer months, nor a killer disease... A "good" cancer, so to speak. Good... for most. No one could have predicted such longevity. An Internet game... a way to pass time. They can now safely say, it is more than a GAME. Something amazing has occurred. What was original thought of as a cool game, it grew into an ADDICTION. Online and insane, the HARDCORE WRESTLING FEDERATION was born. And so I, the man behind the madness -- CHAZ MANSON, will take you on the rollercoaster of hardcore... With a "Behind the Music" fashion, this is the story of the HWF.
Hornet... Geez. What the HELL was I thinking?! But what do you know? It worked, for over a year. At the time, I was just getting to understand computers... let alone e-wrestling. A was just a kid wanting something fun to do... Incredibly, what was an online gathering of people turned into what could be described as a group of obsessed wrestling fans who go about things almost in CULT fashion. Again, not the bad kind. A brotherhood. Deja Vu. Not the occurance, the wrestler... The FIRST wrestler, to be exact. They just kept coming. Why? I haven't the slightest idea. I was desparately posting ads on roleplay boards all across the Internet, I e-mailed people in pleading fashion to join... For whatever reason, people came. It was surely not the flashy rattlesnake image taken directly from the Tripod library and attached to the top of a black page with red text, that is for sure. Names likes Leprechaun, Extream, Vic Williams, The Sandman, Scott Neilson, Big "Black Death" Bomb, The Diabolical Destroyers, Black Ninja, Iceman, Canadian Kid, Morttiis, etc, etc, etc... they all played a huge role in the building of the Hardcore Wrestling Federation. Nothing could stop us from doing what we wanted... I wasn't trying to be the next FWF or IWO. I've never had the goal to dominate the competition. That's why I've never stood for 'Top Sites' logos or 'Best Fed' pages... I tried it once, for-oh, say-about 3 weeks. One of the DUMBEST ideas I'd ever gotten. I put my best into what the HWF stood for and I got a response. People told me that it was the best fed they'd been in. At first, I wasn't sure they were truthful. "There are millions of e-feds out there... how could MINE be the best?" Good question, right? I have no idea why, but that has stuck... After nearly a year in operation, IT HAPPENED.
"JUST ONE OF THOSE DAYS..." April 28, 1999... Somebody did it... Why? I have no idea. Who? I still don't know. What? DELETE. A bad word. A bad word, indeed. Someone mascarading as "Vicious" Vic Williams hacked into the HWF website, graffiti on the walls, destroying at random. A friendship almost lost, a federation almost gone, and a kid with no one to place blame. Now that I think back, maybe it's a accolade to myself. If you have enough hate directed at you as I did --and still do-- you must be doing a lot of things right. Of course, I don't think that applies to everything, because if so... I do EVERYTHING right. Wait a second, maybe that DOES apply to everything... An accolade or not, it sent the HWF into a DOWNWARD SPIRAL that it wouldn't come out of... or so everyone thought.
After nearly six months of down time, the e-mail was sent. With the subject of "OH MY GOD," the e-mail was possibly the best thing I've sent. Short, sweet, and to the point. No more complaining about a hacker.. no more wishing for it to return.. Wishing and complaining is for wishers and complainers. Doing is what I do best, and oh did I do a good thing this time. Late October of 1999 was the rise from the ashes for the phoenix known as the Hardcore Wrestling Federation. Same system, same game, same player.. The HWF had returned and oh... how sweet it was. The applications came in, not as many "legends" came as I had expected. Instead, legends in the making. Names like "The Icon" J. Simon Rykopathe, Michael Trey, Blackjack, Malice, Maxx Powers.. they all came and made a new game. One to fight for their own legendary status, make their own paths in the brush of the e-wrestling world. And so they did, and so they have done, like no others. The original HWF stint was one filled with great names and friends, but I feel the rebirth is so much better. Big names weren't around, so there was no 'I'm too good to roleplay against a rookie' attitude. Every guy in this place knew they had a chance to make it big and judging by the names you see in the HWF today, they MADE IT. A history like this should not leave out the men behind me.. or for the most part, in front. First, I'd like to recognize Royce-"Vic Williams"-for his brief period as HWF Vice President. Next, Dan-"Extream"-for his run as HWF Commissioner. Also, possibly one of the best friends on the internet a person could have, Ben Battiste. Ben was HWF Vice President for last part of 1998 and into early 1999. Those who have seen the original Holiday Hangover, that was mostly Ben's work. A true friend. Next, I'd like to recognize "The Icon" J. Simon Rykopathe--The Ryker--for his short period as a staff member. And finally, the two men who I'm most thankful for, the biggest assholes and nicest friends you'll ever meet: Priam-"Shawn Collins" and Travis-"Johnny Drake." These two guys have helped me... ahem, CARRIED me through some rough times and helped the Hardcore Wrestling Federation stay alive. And before I go... I know this has gotten to be more of my thank you list, but what the hell.. I've got to thank the guys who have made this history possible, don't I? When you see the HWF, remember the "H." Hardcore. Not weapons, not insane moves, not daredevil jumps. The love of wrestling. A HARDCORE passion for wrestling. That is what the HWF is all about.
