HWF Roster: Phoenix

INTERVIEW SESSION

Tony Bradshaw: What got you started in the wrestling industry?

Phoenix: My dad. Every single day, he used to beat the shit out of me. Day in, day out, it was the same thing. No matter what I did, or what he did, I got the same thing. The only thing that could ever suppress his alcoholic rages enough to let me live a normal life was wrestling. Every Saturday morning, we used to sit down and watch the matches on TV together. That was the peace I ever had. When I finally got the balls to stand up to him, wrestling was all I knew and I didn’t even know that all that well. But at least I knew that wrestling would offer me the comfort that I so desperately needed.

Tony Bradshaw: If you were given the opportunity, what would you do with your life?

Phoenix: Vanish into obscurity that is calling out to me. I don’t deserve to be in a fed like this. I’ve gone out there and busted my ass for six straight weeks and the fans don’t care about me. They only cheer me when I get hurt or hurt someone else. If I can just find my own little hole to hide in, I think everyone will be happier.

Tony Bradshaw: What was your first impression of the HWF?

Phoenix: The HWF was a great fed and a safe haven for me. It had its stars and it had its hardcore nature, something that I needed. I knew that I couldn’t wrestle, I had to fight. Still do for that matter. But it is the fact that I’m appreciated for what I can do instead of punished is what keeps me liking this place.

Tony Bradshaw: Do you have any secret talents or little things that you can do?

Phoenix: I can take an ass kicking and still get back up. I’m still undefeated in all of my scheduled matches and I’ve done stuff like the light bulb splash and getting powerbombed through the glass at Born 2 Bleed. I was thrown from the ring through the announce table by Renegade and I’ve hand my lungs bruised and my throat torn up by Ethan Scruggs and I have gotten up and won every single time.

Tony Bradshaw: Okay, you have the chance to wrestle ANYONE in history, it doesn't even have to be a wrestler, who would it be and most importantly why?

Phoenix: My father. He said I would never be good at anything. He told me that I’ll always suck at whatever I do. Why not show him that all his beatings have taught me something. I know how to get hurt and how to get back up. I want to show him that I’m not the failure he wants me to be.

Tony Bradshaw: Do you like the prospect of "Hardcore" in wrestling? Or do you think Hardcore is basically a easy way to get over and doesn't involve any real talent?

Phoenix: Hardcore wrestling is an easy way to get over without having any talent and that’s why I need it. You’ve seen my matches. You know I can’t do too much without using weapons or trying some insane shit. Hardcore is my crutch in life and hardcore is Phoenix.

Tony Bradshaw: Do you have any idols you'd love to meet?

Phoenix: Idols! What are idols anyway? All they are is someone you wish you could be even though you know you could never be as good as them. If you really worship an idol, you’re just admitting that you aren’t as good as them and that’s all they want to hear. I have no idols.

Tony Bradshaw: How long have you been wrestling and training for?

Phoenix: I’ve trained at taking beatings my whole life. Every day when my dad got into his comfortable alcoholic blur, he let me know about it whether it was with a bottle or his belt or even his fists. I’ve only been getting professional advice on this for two years before showing off my talents for the last year and a half.

Tony Bradshaw: Have you ever done anything that has changed your life, or made you reconsider what you were doing to the point of stopping it?

Phoenix: Every damn day I spend in the ring, I think about quitting. Is it really worth getting torn to shreds by glass or barbed wire just to please the fans who don’t give a damn about me? Every time I got to the hospital to get stitched up, the thought of quitting runs through my head and no matter what I do, I can’t hide from it.

Tony Bradshaw: Do you ever dwell on the past?

Phoenix: How the hell can you not dwell on the past? Everything I do and everything anyone else does depends on the past. Every single thing we have done or have had done to us shapes us to be who we are today. How can I not look back at what’s happened to me? If you’ve seen what I could have been and what I’ve been reduced to, you’d dwell on your own personal downfall as well.

Tony Bradshaw: What is your favorite genre of music, and why?

Phoenix: Rock and heavy metal. What else can spread the idea of the inner rage that all of us and especially me have inside of all of us? The music doesn’t help me vent my frustration but it shares it with others.

Tony Bradshaw: Who is your favorite musical artist/band, and why?

Phoenix: I have no favorite. Every day, you go through something new and you experience new feelings that you want to express with music. Why limit your options to a favorite band when others can express your feelings better than they can?

Tony Bradshaw: What CD's in your collection are hitting your ears currently?

Phoenix: You actually think I have a CD collection? I have no money to afford CDs and I have no money to afford something to play them with. I’m stuck living week to week with my small checks from the HWF. I need that money for food to survive. Hell, I don’t even own a car yet. I’m forced to get to and from shows by buses or hitchhiking. I can’t be worried with things like CDs now.

Tony Bradshaw: Who is your favorite wrestler, living or dead, and why?

Phoenix: I have no favorite wrestler. If I’m going to survive in this business, I can’t play favorites and then try to imitate them. I have to stay original or else the few people that actually notice me will lose interest.

Tony Bradshaw: What is your favorite genre of film, and why?

Phoenix: Anything other than a love film. As long as I can watch the movie and then imagine myself in that world rather than my own, it was worth the price of the ticket.

Tony Bradshaw: Who is your favorite actress/actor, and why?

Phoenix: I don’t watch enough movies to answer this. If I did have to make a choice though, I’d say if they’re in the movie I’m watching and they make me forget my problems, then they are my favorite until someone else comes along.

Tony Bradshaw: What are your favorite types of videogames?

Phoenix: I never got a chance to play them. I was a poor kid who lived in a trailer. I never could afford video games then, and I can’t now.

Tony Bradshaw: What games have you been playing recently?

Phoenix: None.

Tony Bradshaw: What is your favorite author/book?

Phoenix: Goldilocks and the Three Bears. I know this doesn’t sound like much, but my mom used to read this story to me before bedtime before she left me for what I did. That is one of the few good memories I have from my childhood.

Tony Bradshaw: What is your favorite food?

Phoenix: Basically anything I can afford at the time. ight now, my favorites are pizza as well as cheap soup.

Tony Bradshaw: What is your favorite color?

Phoenix: Black. What other color can represent the nending misery and hopelessness that I have to go through every day?

Tony Bradshaw: What hand do you whipe your ass with?

Phoenix: If this is any of your business, I’d have to say whatever hand isn’t injured due to wrestling.
